1 Chronicles 18:3–8 – Triumph over Hadadezer
What happens: David strikes Hadadezer of Zobah near the Euphrates, captures chariots, and hamstrings most of the horses. He takes gold shields and much bronze, later used for temple items.
What it means: Spoils of victory are consecrated to God. Power must be restrained under God’s rule. God provides resources for future worship.
1 Chronicles 18:9–11 – Tribute from Tou of Hamath
What happens: Tou sends his son with gifts to bless David for defeating Hadadezer. David dedicates the silver and gold to the Lord.
What it means: Nations acknowledge God’s work through His king. Wealth is safest when devoted to God. Gratitude expresses itself in consecration.
1 Chronicles 18:12–13 – Edom Subdued
What happens: Abishai strikes 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. David places garrisons in Edom, and the Lord gives victory wherever David goes.
What it means: Security comes from God’s hand. God’s sovereignty extends to every border. Peace follows righteous rule.

What happens: David reigns with justice and righteousness. Officers, priests, and commanders are listed.
What it means: Godly leadership blends victory with just administration. Order sustains peace. God values righteous governance.
