Summary
1 Chronicles 3:1–9 – David’s Sons
What happens: David’s sons born in Hebron and Jerusalem are named, including Solomon.
What it means: God establishes the house of David. The promise of a lasting throne takes shape. God is faithful to His covenant with David.
1 Chronicles 3:10–16 – Kings of Judah
What happens: The royal line from Solomon through the kings of Judah ends with Jehoiachin and Zedekiah before the exile.
What it means: The monarchy stands under God’s authority. Decline and exile show the cost of unfaithfulness, yet the line survives by grace. God is just and faithful.
1 Chronicles 3:17–24 – Post-exilic Descendants
What happens: Descendants of Jehoiachin include Shealtiel, Pedaiah, Zerubbabel, and later generations after the exile.
What it means: Even after judgment, God preserves the Davidic line. Hope remains for a future king. This preserves the messianic promise fulfilled in Christ, the Son of David.
Application
- Trust God to keep promises even through seasons of loss.
- Learn from the kings: obedience preserves, disobedience destroys.
- Hold to hope that God restores and advances His plan in Christ.
