Summary
1 John 1:1–4 – The Word of life revealed
What happens: John proclaims what he has heard, seen, and touched concerning the Word of life. The life appears, and he bears witness so others share fellowship with the Father and the Son. He writes so their joy may be complete.
What it means: God reveals eternal life in the real, incarnate Son. Christian fellowship is grounded in truth about Jesus. The principle is joyful communion that flows from eyewitness testimony.
1 John 1:5–10 – God is light; walk in the light
What happens: God is light and in Him is no darkness. If we claim fellowship while walking in darkness, we lie. If we walk in the light, we have fellowship and Jesus’ blood cleanses us. If we claim we have no sin, we deceive ourselves; if we confess, God forgives and cleanses.
What it means: God is perfectly holy and truthful; His people must live openly before Him. Honest confession meets faithful forgiveness through Christ. The principle is integrity, repentance, and cleansing by Jesus’ blood.
Application
