Summary
1 Peter 1:1–12 – Living hope through Christ
What happens: Peter writes to scattered believers, chosen by the Father, sanctified by the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ. He blesses God for new birth into a living hope through Christ’s resurrection, with an imperishable inheritance kept in heaven. Trials test faith and result in praise. Prophets predicted this grace, and angels long to look into it.
What it means: God saves by His triune work and secures our future; Christ’s resurrection anchors hope. Suffering refines faith under God’s care. The principle is secure salvation and joyful endurance in the gospel of Christ.
1 Peter 1:13–21 – Be holy in all conduct
What happens: Set hope fully on the grace to be revealed. Be holy because God is holy. Do not live by former passions but live in reverent fear. You are ransomed not with silver or gold but with Christ’s precious blood, foreknown before the foundation of the world.
What it means: God is holy and redeems at great cost; His people reflect His character. The principle is grace-fueled holiness grounded in Christ’s redeeming blood.
1 Peter 1:22–25 – Love one another; the enduring word
What happens: Having purified souls by obedience to the truth, love one another earnestly from a pure heart. You are born again through the living and abiding word of God. All flesh is like grass, but the word of the Lord remains forever.
What it means: God’s word creates new life that bears the fruit of sincere love. The principle is lasting transformation through Scripture that outlasts all human power.
