Summary
2 Corinthians 6:1–10 – Commending the Ministry
What happens: Paul urges believers not to receive God’s grace in vain, since now is the day of salvation. He commends the ministry by great endurance in afflictions, purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and God’s power. He lists paradoxes of sorrowful yet always rejoicing, poor yet making many rich.
What it means: Grace calls for faithful response and holy endurance. God sustains His servants and displays His character through them. Weakness and hardship do not cancel joy when Christ is present.
2 Corinthians 6:11–13 – Open Hearts
What happens: Paul says his heart is wide open to the Corinthians. Their affections are restricted, not his. He appeals to them to open wide their hearts in return.
What it means: Gospel relationships mirror God’s generous love. Coldness shrinks fellowship, but grace enlarges affection. Unity grows as believers respond to love with love.
2 Corinthians 6:14–18 – Do Not Be Unequally Yoked
What happens: Paul commands believers not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. He contrasts righteousness and lawlessness, light and darkness, Christ and Belial, God’s temple and idols. God promises to dwell among His people and be their Father, so they must be separate and clean.
What it means: God’s people are holy and belong to Him. Separation from idolatry protects worship and witness. God’s covenant presence is a precious promise that calls for purity.
