Summary
Ephesians 3:1–6 – The Revealed Mystery
What happens: Paul explains the mystery made known to him by revelation. The mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
What it means: God’s plan always included the nations, now unveiled in Christ. The church is one body by grace. God is faithful to His promise to bless all peoples.
Ephesians 3:7–13 – Paul’s Ministry and God’s Wisdom
What happens: Paul becomes a minister by God’s grace to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ. Through the church the manifold wisdom of God is now made known to rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. Believers have boldness and access through faith.
What it means: God uses the church to display His wisdom to the universe. Christ’s riches are more than we can measure. Access to God shows His mercy and our new standing.
Ephesians 3:14–21 – Prayer for Fullness and Doxology
What happens: Paul bows before the Father and prays that believers be strengthened with power through the Spirit, that Christ dwell in their hearts by faith, and that they know the breadth and depth of Christ’s love. He prays they be filled with all the fullness of God. He ends with praise to the One who does far more than we ask or think.
What it means: God desires His people to know His love and be filled with His life. The Spirit roots and grounds us in love. God’s glory is the goal and the source of our endurance.
Application
- Welcome all believers as fellow heirs in Christ.
- See the church as God’s display of wisdom and live to honor that calling.
- Pray for deeper strength and grasp of Christ’s love.
- Praise God who can do far more than you imagine.
