Exodus 11:1–3 – God announces the final plague
What happens: The Lord tells Moses one more plague will make Pharaoh drive Israel out. God gives Israel favor with the Egyptians, and Moses is highly regarded.
What it means: God controls outcomes and the hearts of people. His favor prepares the way for redemption and shows His faithful care for His covenant people.
Exodus 11:4–8 – Death of the firstborn foretold
What happens: Moses declares that at midnight every firstborn in Egypt will die, from Pharaoh’s heir to the slave girl’s child, and even livestock. A great cry will rise, but Israel will be spared. Pharaoh’s servants will beg Moses to leave.
What it means: God’s judgment is holy and just, and He makes a clear distinction between those under judgment and those under His protection. Human pride cannot stand against God’s word.
Exodus 11:9–10 – Hard hearts persist
What happens: The Lord states Pharaoh will not listen so that His wonders may multiply. Moses and Aaron perform signs, yet Pharaoh’s heart remains hard.
What it means: Repeated truth can meet a will that refuses to yield. God still turns resistance into a stage for His glory and the salvation of His people.
Application
- Treat God’s warnings as certain and act accordingly.
- Ask God for a soft heart that responds to His word.
- Remember that God can grant favor even in hostile places.
