Summary
Ezekiel 9:1–4 – The mark on the mourners
What happens: God calls six executioners and a man in linen with a writing kit. The man in linen marks on the forehead all who sigh and groan over the city’s abominations.
What it means: God distinguishes those who grieve over sin. Mercy covers the repentant even in judgment. God’s knowledge of hearts is exact and personal.
Ezekiel 9:5–11 – Judgment begins at the sanctuary
What happens: The executioners slay without pity, starting with the elders in the temple, and fill the courts with the slain. Ezekiel intercedes, fearing total destruction. God answers that the land is full of blood and perversion, but He will not spare. The man in linen reports the task completed.
What it means: Judgment begins with those closest to holy things. Intercession matters, but God’s justice stands when evil is entrenched. God remains righteous and keeps His standard.
Application
