Summary
Haggai 1:1–6 – Consider your ways
What happens: In the second year of Darius, God speaks through Haggai. The people say it is not time to rebuild the temple while they live in paneled houses. They sow much and harvest little; their efforts leak away.
What it means: God comes first. Misplaced priorities drain life. God’s covenant discipline aims to call His people back to worship-centered obedience.
Haggai 1:7–11 – Go up, bring wood, build the house
What happens: God commands them to gather materials and rebuild so He may be honored. Because they neglected His house, the heavens withheld dew and the land produced drought.
What it means: God ties blessing to faithful obedience. Worship shapes daily life, and creation itself responds to God’s covenant dealings.
Haggai 1:12–15 – The people obey and God is with them
What happens: Zerubbabel, Joshua the high priest, and the people fear the LORD and obey. God says, “I am with you,” and stirs their spirits. They begin work on the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month.
What it means: God’s word both commands and empowers. When leaders and people respond, God’s presence strengthens them. Obedience restores fellowship and mission.
Application
- Put God’s worship first; order your plans around His presence.
- Act on God’s word today; trust Him to supply strength.
- Expect God to turn scarcity into sufficiency as you obey.
