Summary
Isaiah 6:1–7 – Vision of the Holy King and Isaiah’s Cleansing
What happens: In the year King Uzziah dies, Isaiah sees the Lord high and lifted up. Seraphim cry “Holy, holy, holy,” and the temple shakes. Isaiah confesses his uncleanness. A seraph touches his lips with a coal, and his guilt is taken away.
What it means: God is utterly holy and glorious. Honest confession meets mercy, and God provides cleansing that enables service.
Isaiah 6:8–13 – Commission to a Hardened People
What happens: God asks, “Whom shall I send?” Isaiah answers, “Here am I; send me.” He is sent to preach to a people who will not listen, until cities lie wasted. Yet a holy seed remains like a stump.
What it means: Faithful ministry sometimes hardens as it judges unbelief. God still keeps a remnant, showing both justice and covenant mercy.
Application
- Let God’s holiness lead you to humble confession and worship.
- Say yes to God’s call, even when results seem small.
- Trust God to preserve a remnant and to bring life from the stump.
