Summary
Isaiah 60:1–3 – Arise, Shine
What happens: Zion is told to arise because her light has come. Darkness covers the earth, but the Lord rises upon her. Nations come to her light and kings to the brightness.
What it means: God’s presence turns gloom into glory. His salvation draws peoples to His shining grace.
Isaiah 60:4–9 – Sons, Daughters, and Wealth of Nations
What happens: Exiles return, and the wealth of nations flows in, with camels and ships of Tarshish bringing sons from afar. The coastlands hope in the Lord.
What it means: God restores family and provision. His global purpose gathers people and resources for worship.
Isaiah 60:10–14 – Foreigners Build, Kings Serve
What happens: Foreigners rebuild Zion’s walls, and kings serve. Those who oppressed bow at the city’s feet and call it the City of the Lord.
What it means: God reverses fortunes and vindicates His people. Justice and reconciliation show His rule.
Isaiah 60:15–18 – Everlasting Joy and Peace
What happens: Where Zion was forsaken, she becomes majestic forever. God calls peace her overseer and righteousness her ruler. Violence and ruin end, and her walls are Salvation and gates Praise.
What it means: God’s redemption heals civic life. Holiness brings security and joy under His covenant love.
Isaiah 60:19–22 – The Lord Your Everlasting Light
What happens: The sun and moon no longer define light because the Lord is Zion’s everlasting light. The people are all righteous, possess the land, and the least becomes a thousand by God’s timing.
What it means: God Himself is the source and goal of glory. He completes what He begins, magnifying grace and righteousness.

- Rise in the light of God’s presence and reflect it to others.
- Welcome God’s global gathering and use resources for worship.
- Trust God to finish His work and be your unfailing light.
