Summary
Jeremiah 47:1–4 – Flood from the North
What happens: A word against the Philistines comes before Pharaoh strikes Gaza. Waters rise from the north like a flood, overwhelming the land. The Philistines and their allies are cut off.
What it means: God directs the tides of war. He judges violence and pride. Human alliances cannot withstand his purposes.
Jeremiah 47:5–7 – Lament over Gaza and Ashkelon
What happens: Gaza is shaved bald and Ashkelon is silent. The sword of the Lord cannot rest, for it has an appointed work. It will not be still.
What it means: God’s judgments continue until his will is done. Lament fits when cities fall. The Lord’s word governs the sword.
