Summary

Job 25:1–3 – God’s majesty and rule

What happens: Bildad says dominion and fear belong to God. He rules the heights and his armies are without number. His light shines on all.

What it means: God is infinitely great and commands all powers. His holiness fills creation. Reverence is right in his presence.

Job 25:4–6 – Man’s smallness before a holy God

What happens: Bildad asks how a man can be righteous before God. He says even the moon is not bright compared to God. Man is small and impure in himself.

What it means: Before a holy God, no one stands by merit. We need mercy and cleansing. Truth becomes a weapon, however, when turned against a suffering innocent.

Application

  • Cultivate reverence for God’s majesty.
  • Rely on God’s mercy, not your record.
  • Refuse to use true doctrines to condemn without cause.

Bible

1Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

2Dominion and fear are with him, he maketh peace in his high places.

3Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom doth not his light arise?

4How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?

5Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.

6How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?
