What happens: The inheritance for Joseph’s sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, is described in general.
What it means: God’s promises to the patriarchs continue through their descendants. He orders family inheritances.
Joshua 16:5–10 – Ephraim’s inheritance and failure at Gezer
What happens: Ephraim’s borders and cities are listed. They do not drive out the Canaanites in Gezer, who become forced labor.
What it means: Compromise with sin weakens holiness. Expedience cannot replace obedience. God calls for trust, not reliance on control.
Application
- Honor family callings while keeping God first.
- Reject compromises that seem useful but oppose God’s will.
- Finish difficult tasks God assigns, trusting His strength.
