Summary
Proverbs 15:1–7 – The Power of Gentle, Wise Words
What happens: A soft answer turns away wrath; harsh words stir anger. The eyes of the Lord see all. The tongue of the wise brings healing, while foolish talk pours out folly. The lips of the wise spread knowledge; hearts of fools do not.
What it means: God watches every conversation and loves peacemaking speech. Words can heal because God designed them for life. Wisdom restrains and aims to bless. Fools reveal themselves by careless talk.
Proverbs 15:8–15 – What God Values and What Refreshes
What happens: The Lord hates the sacrifice of the wicked but delights in the prayers of the upright. He loves those who pursue righteousness. Discipline is harsh to those who leave the path. A cheerful heart has a continual feast, while crushed spirits see trouble everywhere.
What it means: God wants sincere hearts, not religious show. He draws near to the upright and corrects wandering feet. Joy flows from alignment with God, not from circumstances. Holiness and gladness grow together.
Proverbs 15:16–23 – Better With Less, Plans With Counsel
What happens: Better a little with fear of the Lord than great treasure with trouble. Better a simple meal with love than a rich feast with hatred. Hot tempers stir up strife; the patient quiet quarrels. Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. A fitting word brings joy.
What it means: God-centered contentment is richer than luxury without Him. Patience reflects God’s mercy and preserves peace. Shared wisdom honors God’s design for community. Timely words echo His kindness.
Proverbs 15:24–33 – The Upward Path and Humble Learning
What happens: The path of life rises away from Sheol. The Lord tears down the proud and hears the prayers of the righteous. Thoughts of the wicked offend Him. One who listens to life-giving reproof dwells among the wise. The fear of the Lord teaches wisdom, and humility comes before honor.
What it means: God saves and lifts those who fear Him. Pride shuts God out; humility welcomes His guidance. Teachability is a mark of wisdom before a holy God. Honor follows lowly hearts.
