Summary
Proverbs 19:1–7 – Integrity Over Image
What happens: Better a poor person who walks in integrity than a fool with twisted speech. Desire without knowledge leads astray. People’s own folly ruins their way, yet they rage against the Lord. Wealth attracts friends; the poor are deserted. False witnesses will not go unpunished.
What it means: God values honesty over polish. Wisdom requires knowledge guided by God. Blaming God for our choices is folly; He is just. God defends truth and will judge lies.
Proverbs 19:8–12 – Sense, Patience, and Royal Wrath
What happens: Getting wisdom is loving your own soul. Good sense makes one slow to anger; overlooking an offense is glory. A king’s wrath is like a lion’s roar, but his favor is like dew.
What it means: Godly wisdom benefits life because it aligns with Him. Patience mirrors God’s mercy. Authority can bless or harm, and wisdom respects its power. God calls us to peacemaking honor.
Proverbs 19:13–23 – Home, Work, Mercy, and Fear of the Lord
What happens: A foolish son and a quarrelsome wife bring grief. Laziness casts into deep sleep. Keeping commands preserves life. Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay. Discipline your son while there is hope. Many plans are in a person’s heart, but the Lord’s purpose stands. The fear of the Lord leads to life and rest.
What it means: God calls families to wisdom, diligence, and order. He identifies with the poor and promises to repay mercy. Parental discipline is loving stewardship under God. Reverence for God secures life beyond our shifting plans.
Proverbs 19:24–29 – Folly, Justice, and Consequences
What happens: The sluggard will not bring his hand back from the dish. Striking a scoffer warns the simple. Abusing parents brings shame. Judgments are prepared for scoffers and blows for the backs of fools.
