Summary
Psalm 2:1–3 – Nations rebel What happens: Kings and peoples unite against the Lord and His Anointed, seeking to throw off His rule. What it means: Human pride resists God’s authority. Sin wants autonomy rather than covenant obedience.
Psalm 2:4–6 – God enthrones His King What happens: God laughs at their plans and declares He has installed His King on Zion. What it means: God is sovereign and unthreatened. His purposes stand, and His kingdom is not shaken.
Psalm 2:7–9 – The Son’s decree What happens: The King recounts God’s decree: “You are my Son.” The nations are His inheritance and He rules with firm justice. What it means: God grants royal sonship and universal dominion. This points to the Messiah’s rightful, global reign.
Psalm 2:10–12 – Wisdom and refuge What happens: Rulers are warned to serve the Lord with reverence and take refuge in the Son. Blessed are all who trust Him. What it means: God offers mercy alongside warning. True wisdom is humble surrender to the Messiah.
