Summary
Psalm 72:1–7 – A just and gentle king What happens: Prayer asks God to give the king justice so the poor are defended and peace abounds. What it means: God loves righteous rule and care for the needy. True kingship reflects His character.
Psalm 72:8–11 – Dominion to the ends of the earth What happens: Kings and nations serve and bring tribute. What it means: God intends a universal reign. This looks ahead to the Messiah’s global kingdom.

Psalm 72:15–17 – Name that endures What happens: Blessings abound and his name endures as long as the sun. What it means: God grants lasting legacy to His anointed. In Christ, blessing reaches all nations.
Psalm 72:18–20 – Doxology What happens: The psalm ends with praise to the God who alone does wondrous things. What it means: Glory belongs to God alone. His purposes stand through all generations.
