Summary
Revelation 12:1–6 – The woman, the child, and the dragon
What happens: A radiant woman cries out in labor. A great red dragon waits to devour her child. She gives birth to a male child who is to rule the nations, and the child is caught up to God and His throne. The woman flees into the wilderness where God nourishes her for 1,260 days.
What it means: God’s saving plan moves forward despite satanic threat. The child’s protection shows God’s sovereignty and faithfulness to His promise. God cares for His people in seasons of trial, revealing His mercy and covenant love.
Revelation 12:7–12 – War in heaven and the accuser cast down
What happens: Michael and his angels fight the dragon; the dragon loses and is thrown down to earth. A loud voice declares victory by the blood of the Lamb and by the believers’ testimony, loving not their lives even to death. Heaven rejoices, but earth faces the devil’s rage for a limited time.
What it means: Christ’s cross breaks Satan’s accusation, showing God’s justice and grace. Courageous witness flows from trust in the Lamb. Evil’s time is short and under God’s limits, which gives hope.
Revelation 12:13–17 – The dragon pursues the woman
What happens: The dragon persecutes the woman; she receives wings to flee to safety in the wilderness. The serpent spews water like a flood to sweep her away, but the earth helps by swallowing the flood. The dragon goes to make war on the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commands and hold to Jesus’ testimony.
What it means: God protects His people even as they face real conflict. Obedience and faithful witness mark God’s children. Spiritual warfare is real, but God shields and sustains His own.
