Song of Solomon 4:1–7 – He Praises Her Beauty

Song of Solomon 4:8–11 – Come with Me, My Bride
What happens: He invites her from Lebanon and dangerous heights. He calls her “my sister, my bride,” and says her love and fragrance surpass wine and spices. Her lips drip honey.
What it means: Love calls the beloved away from risk into safe union. Marriage unites friendship and romance. God designs love to protect and to nourish.
Song of Solomon 4:12–15 – A Garden Locked
What happens: He pictures her as a locked garden, a sealed fountain, full of precious spices and a life-giving spring.
What it means: Purity and exclusivity honor God’s plan. Intimacy is sacred and reserved for covenant. Love’s power is life-giving when kept within God’s bounds.
Song of Solomon 4:16 – Welcome, Beloved
What happens: She invites the winds to blow on the garden so its spices flow. She asks her beloved to come into his garden and taste its choice fruits.
What it means: Consent and welcome mark holy intimacy. Mutual delight is part of God’s good design for marriage. Desire finds its home in faithful union.
