1 Chronicles 20:1–3 – Rabbah Captured
What happens: In the spring, Joab besieges Rabbah of Ammon while David remains in Jerusalem. They capture the city, and David takes the king’s crown and brings out spoil. The people are set to labor with saws and iron tools.
What it means: God grants victory despite human flaws. Leadership decisions have consequences, yet God’s purposes stand. Justice and order follow conquest.
1 Chronicles 20:4–8 – Giants Fallen by David’s Men
What happens: Sibbecai kills Sippai of the Philistine giants. Elhanan kills Lahmi, Goliath’s brother. Jonathan son of Shimea kills a man of great stature with six fingers on each hand and foot. These fall by the hand of David and his servants.
What it means: God defeats intimidating foes through faithful servants. Past victories foreshadow future ones. God’s strength is greater than any giant.
