Summary
2 Timothy 3:1–9 – Last Days Troubles and False Teachers
What happens: Paul warns that in the last days people will love self and pleasure, not God, with a form of godliness but denying its power. They creep into households and capture the vulnerable. Like Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, these men oppose the truth; their folly will be plain.
What it means: Human sin resists God’s truth, but God exposes deception. God’s holiness calls the church to avoid counterfeit religion. Confidence rests in God’s justice.
2 Timothy 3:10–13 – Paul’s Example and Inevitable Persecution
What happens: Timothy knows Paul’s teaching, life, purpose, faith, love, and persecutions. All who desire to live godly lives in Christ will be persecuted, while evil people go from bad to worse.
What it means: The path of Christ includes suffering and steadfast love. God uses faithful examples to steady His people. Hope endures despite growing opposition.
2 Timothy 3:14–17 – Continue in Scripture
What happens: Timothy must continue in what he learned from childhood Scriptures, which make one wise for salvation through faith in Christ. All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness, equipping God’s people for every good work.
What it means: God’s word is living, divine, and sufficient. Scripture reveals Christ and shapes holy lives. God equips His people through His word.
