Isaiah 39:1–2 – Babylonian Envoys Received
What happens: Merodach-baladan sends letters and a gift after hearing of Hezekiah’s recovery. Hezekiah shows them all his treasures and armory.
What it means: Flattery tempts leaders to display wealth and pride. God warns against careless openness that trusts human approval.
Isaiah 39:3–8 – Prophecy of Exile
What happens: Isaiah asks what the men saw and announces that everything will be carried to Babylon. Some of Hezekiah’s sons will serve as eunuchs in the palace. Hezekiah says the word is good, thinking of peace in his days.
What it means: Short-sighted comfort can ignore future loss. God’s word stands, and sin’s seeds bear fruit in time. Wisdom seeks faithfulness for the next generation.
