John 4:1–26 – Jesus and the Samaritan Woman
What happens:
Jesus, traveling from Judea to Galilee, stops at Jacob’s well in Samaria. A Samaritan woman comes to draw water and Jesus asks her for a drink. What it means:
Jesus breaks social and ethnic barriers to offer salvation. His “living water” symbolizes the Spirit’s ongoing work to refresh and transform. Recognizing him as Messiah brings true worship “in spirit and in truth.”
John 4:27–30 – The Disciples Marvel

John 4:31–38 – Jesus Teaches About Spiritual Food
What happens:
Back at the well, the disciples urge Jesus to eat, but he speaks of food that they do not know about. He explains that his nourishment comes from doing the will of the One who sent him and completing his work. He points to the fields ready for harvest and urges his followers to pray for laborers.
What it means:
Spiritual sustenance comes from obedience and participation in God’s mission. The harvest image underscores the urgency of sharing Christ with those prepared to receive him.
John 4:39–42 – Many in Samaria Believe
