Summary
Numbers 30:1–5 – A man’s vow and a daughter’s vow
What happens: Moses teaches that a man’s vow to the Lord stands. A young woman in her father’s house is bound unless her father nullifies the vow on the day he hears. Silence confirms, objection releases.
What it means: God takes promises seriously. Authority in the home carries responsibility to protect and guide. Holiness includes truthfulness and wise oversight.
Numbers 30:6–15 – A wife’s vows and a husband’s role
What happens: A married woman’s vow stands unless her husband annuls it on the day he hears. If he stays silent, the vow stands; if he later annuls, he bears the guilt. Widows and divorced women are bound by their vows.
What it means: God orders family authority for accountability and care. Words matter, and delays have consequences. Justice and mercy appear in guarding households from rash vows.
