Summary
Proverbs 31:1–9 – Lemuel’s Mother on Lust, Drink, and Justice
What happens: A mother warns her royal son to avoid destructive women and strong drink that cloud judgment. He must open his mouth for the mute, defend the rights of the poor and needy, and judge righteously.

Proverbs 31:10–27 – The Excellent Wife’s Skill and Strength
What happens: An excellent wife is precious beyond jewels. She does her husband good, works eagerly, manages resources, buys a field, plants a vineyard, and provides for her household and the poor. She clothes her family, speaks wisdom, and watches over her home without idleness.
What it means: God honors industrious, generous, and wise womanhood. Household economy is holy work under God’s eye. Strength and dignity flow from fearing the Lord. Love expresses itself through skilled service.
Proverbs 31:28–31 – Honor for God-Fearing Beauty
What happens: Her children rise and call her blessed; her husband praises her. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the fruit of her hands; let her works praise her in the gates.
What it means: God measures worth by reverence and faithfulness, not appearance. Public honor is fitting for a life of covenant love. True beauty endures because it rests in fearing the Lord. Communities should celebrate such wisdom.
