What it means: Love gives safety, nourishment, and joy. Godly affection protects and cherishes. Desire belongs in the shelter of faithful love.
Song of Solomon 2:7 – Do Not Awaken Love Too Soon
What happens: She charges the daughters of Jerusalem not to stir up or awaken love until it pleases.
What it means: Timing matters in romance. God calls for patience and self-control. Love ripens best within His order.
Song of Solomon 2:8–13 – Come Away, Spring Has Come
What happens: She hears him coming like a gazelle. He invites her to rise and come, for winter is past and flowers appear. The season sings with life.
What it means: God’s providence brings seasons for love to grow. Healthy love invites, does not coerce. Joy rises when the time is right.
Song of Solomon 2:14–15 – Face, Voice, and Little Foxes
What happens: He asks to see her face and hear her voice. They call to catch the foxes that ruin the vineyards, the small ones that spoil the blossoming vines.
What it means: Intimacy includes open sight and honest voice. Small threats can damage a growing relationship. Guarding love is wise stewardship before God.
Song of Solomon 2:16–17 – Belonging and Waiting
What happens: She says, “My beloved is mine, and I am his; he grazes among the lilies.” She asks him to turn until the day breathes and the shadows flee.
What it means: Belonging and restraint walk together. Commitment gives freedom to wait well. God blesses patience within covenant love.
