Summary
Titus 2:1–10 – Teach Each Group to Live Godly
What happens: Paul commands Titus to teach sound doctrine: older men sober and steadfast; older women reverent, training younger women to love families and be pure and kind; younger men self-controlled; Titus himself a model of good works and sound speech; bondservants submissive, honest, and faithful so they adorn the doctrine of God our Savior.
What it means: God’s truth shapes everyday life in every age and role. Holiness in ordinary duties honors God’s name. The church teaches and models a beautiful life that commends the gospel.
Titus 2:11–15 – Grace Trains Us for Glory
What happens: The grace of God appears, bringing salvation and training us to renounce ungodliness and live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives as we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. He gave Himself to redeem and purify a people zealous for good works. Titus must declare these things with authority.
What it means: Grace is not passive; it trains and purifies because God is redeeming a people for Himself. Christ’s sacrifice creates holy zeal, not laziness. Hope in His appearing fuels present obedience.
