Summary
Zechariah 2:1–5 – Measuring Jerusalem
What happens: Zechariah sees a man with a measuring line going to measure Jerusalem. An angel says Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the many people and animals in it. God Himself will be a wall of fire around her and the glory within.
What it means: God’s presence is better than human defenses. He intends growth and life for His people beyond their limits. Worship centered on God draws true security and glory.
Zechariah 2:6–9 – Flee the north; precious to God
What happens: The exiles are called to flee from the land of the north and escape from Babylon. God says that whoever touches His people touches the apple of His eye. He promises to shake His hand over the nations and they will become plunder.
What it means: God claims His people as precious. He calls them out of compromise and captivity. The Holy One judges nations that harm His own. Covenant belonging brings protection and purpose.
Zechariah 2:10–13 – God dwells with His people
What happens: Daughter Zion is told to sing because God comes to dwell in her. Many nations join themselves to the LORD in that day and become His people. All are called to be silent before the LORD because He has risen from His holy dwelling.
What it means: God’s goal is His presence with His people and the gathering of the nations. Worship, not fear, is the fitting response. Holiness commands reverence and hope.
