Summary
Zechariah 4:1–7 – Lampstand and the word to Zerubbabel
What happens: Zechariah sees a golden lampstand with a bowl and seven lamps, and two olive trees beside it. The word of the LORD to Zerubbabel says, not by might nor by power but by God’s Spirit. The great mountain will become a level place, and the top stone will be brought out with shouts of grace.
What it means: God supplies light and power for His work. Human strength cannot build His house. The Spirit enables what seems impossible. Grace starts and finishes God’s project.
Zechariah 4:8–10 – The day of small things
What happens: God says Zerubbabel’s hands laid the foundation of the temple and his hands will finish it. People who despise the day of small things will rejoice when they see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. The seven eyes of the LORD range through the whole earth.
What it means: God watches over every stage of His work. Small beginnings do not limit His plan. Faith values obedience over size and speed. God’s providence governs all.
Zechariah 4:11–14 – Two olive trees
What happens: Zechariah asks about the two olive trees and their branches that supply oil to the lamp. He is told they are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of all the earth.
What it means: God provides continual oil for His light through leaders He anoints. Priestly and royal service stand together under God. Worship and governance belong to Him.
